The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee has decided to support Thalapathy Vijay's
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in forming the next state government — breaking
away from its long-time ally, the DMK.
The decision was taken at an emergency late-night meeting of the party's Political
Affairs Committee, convened on Zoom by AICC in-charge Girish Chodankar, with
top Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge
present at Kharge's residence in Delhi.
Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal confirmed: "TVK President Vijay has
requested Indian National Congress support to form a Government in Tamil Nadu.
The INC is determined not to have BJP and its proxies run the Government of
Tamil Nadu in any manner."
Congress has 5 seats. With their support, TVK moves closer to the 118-seat
majority mark. Talks with VCK, CPI, and CPI(M) are also underway.
