CPI Officially Backs TVK, Hands Support Letter to CTR Nirmal Kumar

Party of India (CPI) has officially announced its support for Thalapathy Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and formally handed over its support letter to TVK Joint General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar.

CTR Nirmal Kumar had personally met leaders of the CPI and CPI(M) and formally handed over letters seeking their backing for government formation. Kumar said TVK founder Vijay had already made it clear that alliance partners should have a "share in governance and power" so that they could implement their ideologies and policies.

"We are under no pressure. We have already staked claim to form the government and we are confident of forming it," Kumar told reporters after meeting CPI state secretary M Veerapandian.

With Congress already extending support, the tally is estimated to have risen to around 113. If the CPI and CPM formally back TVK, the numbers could go up to 117 — just one short of the magic figure of 118.

All eyes now turn to VCK and CPM for their final decisions, which are expected before the end of Friday.
