Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to be sworn in as Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister on May 7, 2026. The ceremony will be held at Nehru Indoor Stadium,
Chennai, with over 5,000 guests invited.
TVK MLA-elects have been accommodated at a resort in Mamallapuram ahead of
the oath-taking ceremony, as the party finalises cabinet formation and alliance talks
with Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M), and IUML.
Vijay's TVK made history by winning 108 out of 234 seats in its very first
Tamil Nadu Assembly election — becoming the single largest party and the first
non-DMK, non-AIADMK party to lead the state since 1967.
MK Stalin resigned as Chief Minister on May 5, with the Governor requesting him
to continue as caretaker CM until alternative arrangements are in place.
